There are many organisations that provide funding for biodiversity and conservation projects. Closing dates for applications are throughout the year, and due dates are regularly advertised in the Biodiversity HB Newsletter, emails to members (“join us and receive the newsletter directly to your inbox!”) and on our Facebook page.
We can help community groups through focusing and editing funding applications, project management, and managing project funds if your group is not a legal entity. Email Belinda on community@biodiversityhb.nz if you have any questions.
The two funding portals below offer a comprehensive list of funds available, of which some of the more popular ones have been grouped for schools, private landowners and the general community at the bottom of this page.
• Generosity New Zealand is a portal that provides a comprehensive list of organisations that provide funding for groups and individuals. It is a subscription-based service, however you can access it for free at Hawke's Bay public libraries.
• Funding HQ is another subscription-based funding portal, which provides a self-directed online platform to give you coaching, templates, tips, tools and resources for gaining funding.
We also have our own Biodiversity Hawke's Bay contestable fund for local projects (details available on our website in December and application close last day of February).
Community Net, The Wheelhouse, and Predator Free NZ have guides to fundraising, including setting a funding strategy, identify potential funders, and writing great applications.
Once you’ve got the money, here are Community Net and Predator Free NZ resources for understanding financial documents, financial reporting and more.
Please contact the funders directly for advice and support.
This trust assists preservation and protection of the natural environment of New Zealand. They do not have a website but you can contact Warwick Greenwood, the Managing Trustee, at PO Box 10-359, Wellington.
